G.E.C.O.
The Gettysburg College Environmental Concerns Organization (G.E.C.O.) has been a part of campus life for the past twenty years. The club is often involved with campus sustainability projects, environmental advocacy and awareness campaigns, and environmental restoration projects.
For example: The Gettysburg Environmental Concerns Organization and Gettysburg Research and Action by Students for Sustainability partnered to distribute and promote CFLs to students. The campaign sought to reduce energy use in residence buildings while educating the student body about conservation. Through this program, Gettysburg College now largely supports and uses compact fluorescent bulbs over incandescent bulbs. Continue to help this campaign by purchasing CFLs for your personal lamps and by reminding your professor to use the fluorescent lights in classrooms.
Every year they assist with the Painted Turtle Farm, campus-wide Sustainability Week, environmental conferences across the nation, volunteering at local farms and nature preserves, and much more. Anyone is encouraged to join them on Thursday evenings at 7:30 in the G.E.C.O. Office in Plank Basement.
