Gettysburg Research and Action by Students for Sustainability (GRASS)

Gettysburg Research and Action by Students for Sustainability (GRASS) was founded as a subcommittee of Student Senate to unite and direct the growing sustainability movement on campus.

As its first first self-initiated goal, GRASS drafted a Sustainability Proposal in spring of 2007 and gained hundreds of student signatures in support. The proposal outlined long- and short-term plans for action.

In response to the proposal, the Gettysburg College administration formed a Sustainability Advisory Committee in fall 2007. It represents the entire campus, with members including students, faculty, and administrators.

GRASS is the liaison between the Sustainability Advisory Committee and a wide array of student organizations, unifying the sustainability movement on campus. GRASS's membership includes the sustainability project coordinator from the Center for Public Service, the recycling interns, two student sustainability representatives, the president of Gettysburg Environmental Concerns Organization GECO, members of Biosphere, the Student Senate, and the College Activities Board member, and others as interested.

The Sustainability Advisory Committee is increasingly important after Gettysburg College became a charter signatory of the Presidents Climate Commitment
