Painted Turtle Farm
In 2006, student Freya Gibbon received a Mellon Grant to establish an organic student garden on campus. Named after a friend found at the garden after flood rains, the Painted Turtle Farm provides produce to both the campus Dining Center and the local food bank. The farm also acts as a hub of learning for courses in the Department of Environmental Studies. Student interns manage the farm year-round along with volunteers, constantly designing new projects and programs for the campus and wider community.
