ACGC Community

Each year, ACGC staff comprises energetic and supportive teachers from all over the country. Staff qualifications include advanced degrees and extensive experience working with teens. Our staff cares deeply about our students and enjoys participating in activities with them both in and out of the classroom. Staff members live on the residence halls with the students, and they are available to the students any time of the day or night. In just two weeks, we conscientiously build a strong sense of community and social responsibility to each other. We build respect not only for each other, but also for campus environment.

Our staff includes a Program Director, Academic Director, Teachers and Resident Assistants. The Directors oversee all aspects of the program and academic environment. Teachers add their personal talents and teaching to the students needs and interests. Resident Assistants plan a huge variety of free-time activities and oversee the nuances of residential life in a close-knit community. All staff members are available to our students – to guide a younger student through feelings of homesickness, offer extra help outside of the classroom, organize a game of kickball during free time, or walk students into town.

In addition to returning members of the ACGC community, all staff comes to Gettysburg a week before the program begins for extensive preparation, training and bonding, so they are fully ready to greet the summer’s students.

Our student body comes from around the country, and indeed the world. Most students are attending ACGC for the first time and others have been coming for years. Whether a student has been recommended by teacher, signed-up by parents, or has found us on their own – all students are quickly happy they have come. While some students come with friends or siblings, or return from previous years to old friendships, many students arrive on their own and leave with ten new friends… some of whom they will keep for life.
