Washington D.C. Academic Field Trip

The Nation’s Capitol is our classroom. Each session the entire ACGC crew boards air conditioned coach buses for a trip to Washington DC. Each class then heads for a program-specific destination which speaks to the coursework and curricula. Last summer, our Service & Leadership students met with former and current Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich; the college prep students visited and toured D.C. area locations like Georgetown and American Universities; and our Spanish students visited the Spanish Embassy.

We work hard to find varied and exciting destinations, but we maintain a flexible schedule and open minds as the trips approach. Often the best field trip stories occur when the students begin to explore and interact with their environment. Last summer our Creative Writing students needed something to drive their poetry class, and ended up meeting two Canadians dressed as beavers at the National Zoo who were putting on a play. From monuments to museums to the zoo, we incorporate the field trips into each course curriculum.

"I loved going to Washington D.C. We visited an art museum, ate at a Cuban restaurant, and took salsa lessons. I learned so much in class and had fun while doing it! Thank you for an amazing experience!"
