"Der Tanz der Wörter des Schweigens" by Christopher Wolf, Class of 2011
Der Tanz der Wörter des Schweigens illuminates the complexity of expression of those deep, sorrowful passions that well up inside of us. Dark feelings are more often articulated not by words, but by gestures, or crying, or even silence. In order to unravel this bodily expressed "tongue", the poet must dance along the precipices of this world - rhyme of poetry must entwine itself with the collection of spoken languages, and somewhere in this motion, one may conjure up a conceptualization which could never be communicated with another, for words and pictures are absent. This elaborated "kinesthetic" concept cannot be born into one by means of empathy - only by experience. One must actually be a partner in the dance.
