The Cross-disciplinary Science Institute at Gettysburg College (X-SIG) was established to help our community of students be research ready, research active and research connected. X-SIG oversees a set of initiatives designed to equip our students with the skills necessary for modern research, preparing them to integrate multiple disciplines in order to answer science’s most pressing questions. Specifically, the X-SIG Advisory Board will:

• act as the selection panel for the Summer Gettysburg College-HHMI research fellowships;
• manage a summer program that will explore the practical and ethical aspects of being a scientist;
• help students find and apply for off-campus research internships; fund student participation in sophomore research, conferences, and visits to nearby research labs;
• plan and implement an interdisciplinary seminar series;
• oversee activities associated with our new Science House; and
• develop and implement the Science Peer Mentor program

X-SIG was inaugurated in Fall 2012, with support from a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute through their Precollege and Undergraduate Science Education program.
