Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much will the Gettysburg Semester cost?
Students participating in The Gettysburg Semester will pay one-half of Gettysburg College's yearly fee for tuition, room, and board. (The specific amount will change yearly.) The cost of tuition, room, and board for 2006 Gettysburg Semester students was approximately $19,000.
  • What is the deadline for Applications?
Applications for both enrollment and scholarships are due March 1st. If you wish to be considered for a scholarship please state this in your application package and a scholarship application will be sent to you.
  • Is there any financial aid available for The Gettysburg Semester?
We recommend that students interested in obtaining financial aid for our program file the FAFSA with the financial aid office at their home institution by the priority deadline of March 1. Although state and federal funding will usually transfer to Gettysburg College, some institutional funding-money that you receive from your own school-may not. We will be happy to work with the financial aid officers at your institution to arrange portability of your financial aid.
  • Where will I live on campus?
Gettysburg Semester students live in The Appleford, a former bed-and-breakfast (c. 1867), which also serves as home for members of Gettysburg College's Civil War Era Studies minor.
  • What kinds of students participate in the Gettysburg Semester?
The 2006 Gettysburg Semester students were juniors and seniors from Assumption College, Beloit College, Mercyhurst College, Le Moyne College, SUNY Buffalo, and William & Mary. Alumni of the Gettysburg Semester include students from Bowdoin College, Dickinson College, Hartwick College, Siena College, Notre Dame, Penn State, University of Chicago, Susquehanna University, University of Virginia, Hamilton College, University of Wisconsin, State University of New York, Wake Forest University, and Furman. In other words, people just like you!
