Opera

The Sunderman Conservatory of Music offers the aspiring singer many performance opportunities through course work and extra-curricular offerings. Opera Workshop is an intensive, performance-based course offered each spring, where students learn operatic roles, and chorus parts.  Through fully costumed and staged performances, emphasis is on musical preparation, vocal coaching, diction, acting techniques, in-depth character analysis, and stage movement.

There are exciting summer performance opportunities for our students as well.  To date, our students have had the opportunity to go on a European Tour, performing Britten's Albert Herring and Broadway and Sacred concerts in Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, and Prague in 2007, perform the Varna, Bulgarian premiere of Haydn's Die Schöpfung (The Creation) in 2009, sing the Mozart Requiem in Varna, Bratislava, Budapest, Prague, and Haifa, Israel, and perform our own Night on Broadway in those cities in 2010.  In June and July, 2011, our students had the opportunity to perform Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) at the Varna Opera House and sing Verdi's Requiem on an Umbrian/Tuscany tour of Rome, Arezzo, Perugia, and Florence, Italy.  Our voice students have been accepted to participate in auditioned summer vocal programs, including the Manhattan Summer Voice Festival, Song Fest, Resonanz, Music Theater Bavaria, Bel Canto Institute in Italy, Oberlin in Italy, Daniel Ferro in Italy, and others.
