Cliometrics Conference Information

The National Science Foundation annually sponsors the Cliometrics Conference. Calls for papers in progress on quantitative economic history go out in the fall.

A dozen papers are selected for presentation and another two dozen people are selected to be official discussants at the conference. These discussants are required to read all papers in advance of the conference. Each presenter has 5 minutes to summarize the paper and then discussion begins. Only one paper is given in a session and only one session occurs at a time.

The official participants range from long time distinguished and well-published economic historians to graduate students. The conference is designed to help bring research from the "in progress" stage to completed publishable work. It also provides a place for interaction among economic historians, with serious, in-depth consideration given to each paper. People in the area and interested in economic history are welcome to attend the sessions to the extent that space is available.

The 2009 conference is being held at Gettysburg College, June 5-7, in Gettysburg, PA. All sessions are scheduled for the Science Center, room 200, on the College campus.
