Hi! In this photo, I am challenging myself to do something new, learn to water-ski on the Susquehanna River!!! I believe a great teacher does more than "great work," she continues to stretch and grow intellectually as well as physically. My research and teaching activities are strongly interdependent. I teach a variety of field-supported courses in literacy and special education. These courses include a balanced mix of theory, practice, methodology, and assessment. My students do research with me in the field and on campus. We often present our results together at research conferences and publish co-authored journal articles and book chapters. My research focuses on the impact of digital media on today's youth, effective comprehension instructional strategies, and how to better meet the needs of at-risk students in and out of school. I conduct much action-research in local schools, with alum, and at a non-profit learning learning center my husband and I co-founded: Enlightened Learning Center (www.enlightenedlearning.org). Another interest of mine is the implication of education policies as I serve as the College's Certification Officer. In order to compare education policies across the United States as well as in other countries, I investigate various various PA policies, state polices, and international policies. I also toured Denmark and participated in a conference on international educational practices, sponsored by Denmark's International Study Program (DIS). Thanks so much for your interest!
