Environmental Studies Programs

The Environmental Studies department takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of complex environmental issues, incorporating the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

As one of the largest ES departments among top liberal arts colleges, we offer an unusually wide range of courses and research opportunities.

Students can pursue an Environmental Studies major (Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts) or minor.

Faculty Spotlight: Andrew M. Wilson

Andrew WilsonWilson worked as a research assistant in health economics at York University in the United Kingdom, and fused his career with a lifelong interest in birds and conservation when he worked at the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). He was heavily involved in the Pennsylvania Breeding Bird Atlas project during six years of fieldwork and was lead editor on the Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in Pennsylvania.
