Yes, I am using my French major fully right now. I'm situated in Bressuire, France right now as an English teaching assistant. As most are likely unaware, Bressuire is a small city in the West of France. Here, I'm the predominant English teacher at two primary schools where I head six classes, each twice a week for a total of twelve hours a week. I started here in October and will continue my work until the beginning of next July.
I've found it to be an overall pleasant and engaging experience. So far nearly every aspect of my mental competence has been tested, from my ability to remain patient with the language to my willingness to reach out and meet new people. Although I've never considered teaching as a career, nor do I plan to continue it after this year, it has been an entirely rewarding process. The students remain to be my greatest source of learning and inspiration.
Over the summer, between graduation and my departure for France, I worked as a legal assistant in Bethesda, Maryland. I'm in the process of applying to schools right now--most of them law schools--thus my post-France status is pending until further notice.
