Avignon
Program for French Majors in Avignon:
Students who have completed French 300 may enroll in the Department's foreign study Program for Majors in Avignon administrated by the Institute for American Universities (IAU).
Avignon is a picturesque old city near France's Mediterranean coast which is favored by an ideal climate. Travel is easily available to Italy, Spain and Switzerland as well as to Paris. The program consists of a total of five courses: one required language course and four additional elective courses.
All courses are conducted in French; three of the five French courses may be counted toward the French major for a degree from Gettysburg College. In order for majors to transfer the equivalent of three course credits, Gettysburg students will be required to complete a supplemental work component. This extra work requirement is determined by the Institute for American Universities administration.
All students will live with families selected for them by the Housing Director at the IAU.
