GS-440 Globalization Studies Capstone
The Globalization Studies (GS) Capstone is envisioned as an intensive seminar experience, in which students in the final year of their GS major will have an opportunity to interact, learn, and bond as a cohort. The capstone will meet once a week for 2.5 hours, during which time students will undertake a common core of coursework related to “Globalization” as an interdisciplinary field of study. In addition, assignments completed as part of the Capstone experience (outlined below) will be designed to assist students make steady progress towards completion of their Senior Project/Thesis. In addition, we envision the GS Capstone as one that will provide students with a much-needed intellectual space from which to critically discuss and analyze their experiences abroad. Study abroad is a requirement for the major (indeed, some of our students spend more than one semester abroad through multiple programs) – yet, as our colleagues in Off Campus Studies remind us, these students often return confused and face challenges in sharing, understanding, and effectively communicating much of what they have experienced. Our hope is that the GS Capstone experience can help to fill this gap through both engagement with specific curricular materials and via the continued off-campus study (i.e., the travel component) associated with the course.
