Rebecca Bergren began her career at Gettysburg College in 1997. As Dean for Global Initiatives and Director of the Center for Global Education she oversees strategic and operational planning for global education activities, develops partnerships and policies, collaborates with faculty and staff on curriculum integration, grants and other professional development opportunities, and supports campus wide global learning goals, and other internationalization efforts.
Rebecca chairs the Global Study Programs Committee, supervises the rotating faculty directors for the Center for the Study of Global Issues, and the Center for Language and Intercultural Communication, and sits on several curricular and administrative committees. Rebecca is active at the national level maintaining membership in NAFSA: Associate of International Educators, the Forum on Education Abroad, Diversity Abroad, the Pennsylvania Council on International Education (PaCIE) and the Global Leadership League. She is a certified reviewer for the Forum on Education Abroad’s Quality Improvement Program (QUIP) evaluation process, and she was recently elected to CIEE’s Academic Consortium Board. Rebecca has served on several other notable advisory boards and regularly presents at conferences.
Prior to her appointment at Gettysburg, Rebecca was Associate Director of the Study Abroad at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds a MA and BA from Alfred University, NY and has studied, lived, and worked in Ecuador and England.
