Schedule
We will devote morning sessions to bringing guest experts to speak to teachers about their particular approach to the field of World History and the History of Asia. Then, in a seminar format, will ask each of the participants to engage in significant discussions. Michael Adas of Rutgers University, Howard Spodek of Temple University, and J. Megan Greene of the University of Kansas will address that question with our teachers. Each of our experts will be available throughout the day of their talk (and longer if their schedule permits) to interact informally with our teachers.
After lunch and some downtime, we will spend the afternoons on creative ways to utilize technology in teaching. Kristen Lehner of Johns Hopkins University will work on instructional technology. Her work will be complemented by our Master Teacher, Ane Lintvedt, who will be helping our teachers think about how to use what they are learning in a practical way, based upon her long experience in the classroom. We will include the Gettysburg College faculty with expertise in World History who will serve as additional resources, this year William Bowman, Dina Lowy, and Michael Weber.
Late afternoons will be devoted to some fun activities: one great advantage of being in Gettysburg is that we have access to the battlefield and the Eisenhower historical sites. We will make tours available to participants, using some of our own history majors who are registered guides.
Evenings will include dinners, social events, and cultural programs.
