Arabic Language Program
The Interdisciplinary Studies Program at Gettysburg College is privileged to offer an Arabic language course. Given a weekly schedule of work to complete, students teach themselves by using a text book and audio materials independently. They are expected to know each assignment's material prior to meeting with a trained conversation partner, fluent in Arabic, three times each week (a total of 150 minutes).
Currently the program includes a sequence of four Arabic Language Courses. Arabic 101 and 102 cover materials at the beginner level and include elements of understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Arabic. Arabic 201 and 202 are on an intermediate level and stress practice in oral and written expression, grammar review, readings, and discussions of writing in Arabic. Prerequisites for the 200-level courses are Arabic 102 or its equivalent. Students will receive one course credit for each course. Courses meet the second language requirement under the goal of local and global citizenship. Once a semester, each student will be evaluated by an external evaluator.
The deadline to apply for the Fall 2008 section of Arabic 101 has passed.
