Course Scenarios

For students who have completed Italian 102 at Gettysburg (or equivalent).

Fall Term in Florence in Syracuse's Option I:

  • ITA 201 (Italian III) plus ITA 200.1 LAC (Community and Culture III) to fulfill Italian 201 at Gettysburg.
  • Three additional 3-credit courses. These three additional courses will be in English.

For these courses, students will receive credit for four Gettysburg College courses.

For students who have completed Italian 202 at Gettysburg (or equivalent)

If not minoring in Italian Studies:

Fall Term in Florence in Syracuse's Option I:

  • ITA 202 (Italian IV) plus ITA 200.2 (Community and Culture IV) for credit as one advanced language course. ITA 202 course in Florence is not a duplicate of Gettysburg's ITAL 202.
  • Three additional 3-credit courses.

Students will then get credit for four Gettysburg College courses.

If minoring in Italian Studies:

Two plans are offered, both available during the Fall Term at Syracuse in Florence:

Plan A -- From Syracuse's Option I Program

Students will take:

  • e ITA 325 (Advanced Language Usage) plus one 3-credit Italian Topics course, either in English or Italian, approved by both a faculty member of the Italian program and the Chair of the French and Italian Department. The combination of the two courses will transfer as one advanced Italian language course.
  • Three additional 3-credit courses. If students plan to satisfy two course requirements for the Italian Studies minor in Florence, then one of the additional three 3 credit courses must also be an Italian Topics course approved by a faculty member of the Italian program and the Chair of the French and Italian Department.

 Students will receive credit for four Gettysburg College courses.
