French
Offered as: Major , Minor
The French major encompasses mastery of the language skills of reading, speaking, and writing as well as advanced, in-depth study of French literature, history and culture, and contemporary issues facing French-speaking nations.
All French majors study abroad for at least one semester, which typically results in dramatic progress in their language skills. The College sponsors programs in the French cities of Aix-en-Provence (for minors) and Avignon (for majors), and students may also take advantage of study abroad programs offered in collaboration with other colleges.
The major offers strong preparation for graduate school and for careers in such fields as public service, international business, interpretation, and teaching.
