Spanish and Latin American Studies

The major and minor in Latin American Studies are multidisciplinary, incorporating the humanities and social sciences.
The combined major in Spanish and Latin American Studies requires a semester in a Spanish-speaking country and twelve courses including a senior-year independent study in close collaboration with a faculty member.
The Latin American Studies minor requires six courses. Study abroad is strongly encouraged.
Students gain opportunities to:
• Learn about Latin American history, society, politics, and culture
• Consider complex issues such as the interdependence of Latin America and the United States
• Study abroad through two programs in Argentina and three in Mexico
• Volunteer while abroad or with the Gettysburg area’s growing Latino population
