Film Studies
Offered as: Minor
In an era dominated by visual media, few are more powerful than film, which is both one of the most common and one of the least understood of art forms. The minor in film studies is designed to give you a deeper appreciation of film and a more complete understanding of the context in which films are made and seen.
Courses cover film style, analysis, and theory, and study film as a cultural phenomenon. They investigate historical film traditions of France, Italy, Japan, Cuba, and other countries. A course on video production provides hands-on experience with the processes of film- and video-making.
You come away with knowledge of how and why films are made, and with critical skills to understand what they communicate and why they affect us so much.
