At Gettysburg, students of English gain skills that give them an edge in any career: critical thinking, persuasive argumentation, close reading, and concise communication.
Topics of study range from Old English poetry to contemporary film and world literature. Numerous courses focus on interdisciplinary inquiry. A minor in writing is available.
Approximately one-third of Gettysburg College English majors spend a semester studying abroad. The Advanced Studies in England program at Bath is offered in association with University College, Oxford. Students also have opportunities to live and learn in London and at Lancaster University. Gettysburg College is also affiliated with other universities in Great Britain, Australia, South America, and Denmark.
