Civil War Era Studies
Offered as: Minor
No American college is better or more appropriately suited to having an exemplary program in Civil War Era Studies than Gettysburg, a college mmersed in the history of that era.
This showcase program, created in 1998 through a grant from the Henry R. Luce Foundation, focuses on the years 1848-1877, during which American democracy underwent a supreme test. The program includes both an interdisciplinary, six-course minor that examines Civil War era history, literature, and culture; and the Gettysburg Semester, a Civil War era immersion program that attracts college students from across the U.S. and around the world. Gettysburg College is the only institution where you can graduate with a minor in the Civil War.
