Requirements
Requirements for the Sociology Major
Students who major in sociology take a minimum of ten full-credit courses, including:
• Sociology 101 (a prerequisite for all other Sociology courses)
• Sociology 302 (a prerequisite for Sociology 303 and 323)
• Sociology 306
• One of the sociology/inequality courses: Sociology 202, 209, 217, or 240
• One of the seminars in sociological theory: Sociology 310, 311, 312, or 313
• Sociology 303 or 323 (Sociology 302 is a prerequisite for both)
• Sociology 400/Capstone Seminar
• Three Sociology electives, excluding the Sociology 470 courses and normally excluding the Sociology 450 courses. One of these courses may be an Anthropology course.
Sociology majors typically take courses in this order:
• Sociology 101
• Inequality course
• Electives
• Sociology 302
• Sociology 306
• Upper-level theory and methods courses
• Capstone Senior Seminar
Requirements for the Sociology Minor
The Sociology minor consists of six courses:
• Sociology 101
• Sociology 302
• Sociology 306
• Three Sociology electives, normally excluding the Sociology 450 and 470 courses
