The Putnam Competition is an annual mathematics competition for undergraduates enrolled in institutions in the United States and Canada. Each year, we field a volunteer team of students to participate in the competition. The Mathematics departments at Gettysburg College and St. Mary's College of Maryland have a long-standing wager on our students' performance in the competition: the school with the better-performing team holds The Lamp for the next year. After several years at St. Mary's, The Lamp is returning --- Gettysburg students re-captured it in last year's competition.
On September 27, Professor Dave Kung of St. Mary's College of Maryland came to campus to give a talk and to hand over The Lamp.
