Kenneth F. Mott

Kenneth Mott is Professor of Political Science at Gettysburg College, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College in 1961, an M.A. from Lehigh University in 1962, and a PhD from Brown University in 1967, all in political science. He has been teaching at Gettysburg since 1966.

Professor Mott has written two books, The Supreme Court and the Living Constitution (University Press of America), and Religion, the State, and Education: The Supreme Court and perspectives of Theory (University Press of America) and has published articles in a variety of professional journals, including Polity, Journal of Law and Education, Social Science Perspectives Journal, Suffolk University Law Review, Seton Hall Law Review, John Marshall Law Review, and three encyclopedias, The Encyclopedia of the Supreme Court (Salem Press), Encyclopedia of the Supreme Court (Facts on File), and Encyclopedia of American Civil Liberties (Congressional Quarterly Press).

Dr. Mott has been a frequent speaker before clubs and organizations and has been active in practical politics as a consultant at both the local and state levels. He served as Associate Director of the Tunisia Peace Corps Project for three years. At Gettysburg College, he has served as faculty parliamentarian since 1982 and completed three five-year terms as Chair of the Political Science Department, in addition to serving on two elected and several non-elected faculty committees. He serves as advisor to both the student Republican and Democratic organizations, as a campus prelaw advisor, and was elected to fill the Harold Evans Leadership Professor Chair in 2009, serving in Gettysburg’s Eisenhower Public Affairs Institute.

As a teacher, Professor Mott has offered courses in American Government, Constitutional Law, Civil Rights and Liberties, Political Parties and Interest Groups, Voting Behavior, Religion and Politics, and a variety of focused seminars. He has been the recipient of the College’s Distinguished Teacher Award (2003), and two Faculty Appreciation Awards (1985, 1998), given by the students.

Dr. Mott is married and has four children.
