Mellon Summer Scholars Program (MSS)
Type of Projects Supported:
- Faculty-mentored student research during the summer before a student's sophomore, junior, or senior year.
- Preference will be given to projects in the humanities, arts, social sciences, Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, and to those that are interdisciplinary in nature. Students from science departments which do not have endowed funds for summer research are also eligible.
- The research project must be connected to the student's on-going program of study. It can be the beginning of a senior capstone project, or it can complete a project begun in an earlier course or course cluster.
- Summer scholars receive a stipend of $3500 and their mentors receive a stipend of $1000.
- An additional $500 is available for project-related expenses.
- Mellon Summer Scholars are expected to attend and participate in the luncheon meetings scheduled during the 10-week summer program unless project-related activities require them to be elsewhere with their mentors.
- All supported projects must be compliant with the College's ethical review policies. If the research design employs the use of human subjects, the online protocol must be submitted to the IRB for review no later than March 31, 2012.
