I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and am writing about how my high school classmates and I have reconstructed our recollections to disassociate ourselves from segregation.  I have published one article from this research  - “Recalling a Difficult Past:  Whites’ Memories of Birmingham” (2012.  Sociological Inquiry  82: 29-41).  In the fall of 2014, I am a Visiting Scholar in Cultural Sociology at Yale University where I am working on a book that expands on this work.  My previous publications explore a range of areas in gender studies.  I teach courses in theory, social change, and gender.   When I am not writing or teaching sociology, I am practicing or teaching yoga.
