Voon Chin Phua, Assistant Professor of Sociology, published "The Love that Binds:Transnational Relationships in Sex Work" in Sexuality and Culture, Vol. 13 (2009): 91-110. The paper examines the relationships between Brazilian sex workers and their long-term clients.

Phua also published "Differences in Romanian Men's Online Personals by Sexualities" in Journal of Men's Studies, Vol. 17 (2009): 145-154. The article, co-authored with Sebastian Bartos and Erin Avery '08, examines differences in content between 187 men seeking men and 193 men seeking women in a sample of Romanian personals in 2007.

Phua also published "Economic Hardship among Elderly Pacific Islanders" in AAPI Nexus, Vol. 6 (2008): 65-79. This paper presents baseline information about the poverty status of Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander elders and explores how individual and household characteristics impact their economic well-being. The article is coauthored with Sela V. Panapasa and James W. McNally. Phua is the second author.
