Professor Rolon, a native from Argentina, received her M.A. from Temple University and her Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Alicia's area of specialization is Contemporary Latin American Literature, particularly the fiction of the Southern Cone (Argentina, Chile and Uruguay). Since she came to Gettysburg College in 1994, Alicia has delivered papers at national and international conferences and has published reviews and articles on contemporary Latin American writers and a book on Mempo Giardinelli's novels, Historia, ficcisn y escritura: La novelmstica de Mempo Giardinelli entre 1980 y 1991.

Lately, she has also been studying and researching about the impact of international service-learning in foreign language learning as a result of a five-week course (Spanish 207) she developed in Argentina. Very popular among students, this course combines the learning of language and culture, service at an orphanage and at small elementary school and tango lessons (although she does not teach this part!).
