The Hispanic Heritage in the United States
Isabel Valiela is originally from Argentina. She received an M.A. from the New York University in Madrid program, and a Ph.D. in Spanish from Duke University. At Gettysburg College she teaches Spanish, as well as courses crosslisted with the Latin American Studies Program and the Womens Studies Program. Her research interests are in the field of Hispanic literature in the U.S., as well as in Latin American and U.S. Latina womens literature. She integrates service learning projects with the Gettysburg Hispanic community in many of her courses, as a way to provide an experiential component to the students Gettysburg College education.
