Choral and Vocal Music

Solo Voice Studies

Choral Music is one of the hallmarks of the Sunderman Conservatory. With five choral ensembles, we have opportunities for singers at all levels of expertise and experience. If you've been singing for many years, or if you're just starting out, there is a place to sing at Gettysburg College.

There are three main ensembles in the program - the College Choir, Concert Choir, and Women's Choir - and everyone participates in one of those choirs. Singers with further interest and ability may also participate in the World Music Ensemble or Camerata, described below. Students can tailor their involvement according to their interests and availability.

The groups are open to all students regardless of major, and community members are welcome to join the Concert Choir. Singers from almost every field of study on campus participate, and many people sing in more than one ensemble.

Descriptions of all the ensembles appear below.

The Gettysburg College Choir

Gettysburg College Choir

TheCollege Choir is the premiere choral ensemble at the college. Designed for experienced singers, this group performs at a very high level. In addition to major concerts each semester, the College Choir performs at venues in the region and special events for the college. The group tours every spring in the eastern United States or internationally. We're planning a tour to Central America for March 2006. Rehearsals TU/TH 4:00-6:00 pm.

Concert Choir

This large ensemble is designed for college and community singers with varying levels of experience and expertise. It performs choral literature from many periods and styles with an emphasis on major works written for large choruses. The group performs in the major choral concert each semester. One rehearsal per week: MO 7:30-9:30 pm.

Women's Choir

The Women's Choir performs sacred and secular music for women's voices from various periods. For experienced singers, the group performs on campus and in the community.

Camerata

This advanced ensemble performs music for small ensembles, from madrigals to vocal jazz. The group sings with the college Jazz Ensemble and at concerts and special events.

World Music Ensemble

Through performance of a diverse repertoire, singers in this ensemble gain a better understanding of the role of music in world cultures, including those within the United States. Performances on campus and in the community.
