Student Opportunites

Theatre students come from all parts of the campus, from all classes and from all academic disciplines. Under the direction, supervision and guidance of the theatre faculty they act, stage manage, construct, light, write, sew, and yes, also direct as they translate a play from page to stage.

OWL AND NIGHTINGALE PLAYERS
Are one of the oldest student organizations on campus that works in conjunction with the Department of Theatre Arts for the purpose of advancing and promoting the arts on campus. Students may major or minor in Theatre Arts at Gettysburg College.

THEATRE HOUSE
Owl and Nightingale Players/Theatre House is another large part of the Gettysburg Theatre experience. As a special interest house, Theatre House sponsors many events each such as: trips to regional theatres, cast parties, spaghetti dinners, the O & N picnic and ushering for the mainstage productions. You don't have to be a major, minor, or have theatre experience. All you need is a sincere interest in the theatre and the desire to live in one of the most active houses on campus.

PRODUCTIONS MAINSTAGE
Three major productions are offered each year. The productions are designed so that a student may during his or her four years at Gettysburg see and/or participate in a variety of plays from different periods in different styles. These include Shakespeare, comedies of manners, musicals, works by the early modernists, contemporary plays and new experimental theatre pieces. Here as elsewhere, casting is open; first year students frequently take major roles alongside veteran performers.

LABORATORY THEATRE
Lab Theatre produces a dozen one-act plays each year, many of which are new and some of which are the work of campus playwrights. All works are given in the exciting Stevens Laboratory Theatre in Brua Hall, where the seating can be rearranged to provide staging in the round, thrust profile, and frontal. In addition, senior theatre arts students utilize the theatre for staging thesis productions for their major.

OTHERSTAGE
In addition to sharing the facilities of the black box Stevens Theatre, this troupe performs its short plays at other areas both on campus and in the community. Their work encompasses lunchtime theatre, street theatre, and childrenÕs theatre. In each of the theatre groups, students are afforded the opportunity of gaining experience in all areas of theatre, from acting and directing to scene design, lighting, and costuming.
