Mellon Grants
Gettysburg College received a $500,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activities for students.
The four-year grant builds on a $50,000 grant the foundation awarded in 2006, which provided seed money for a faculty-mentored student research program
during the summer. The new grant will support research throughout the
year by covering research expenses for individual students or classes,
as well as the cost of students presenting their research at regional and national conferences. The
grant also supports faculty development related to mentoring students
in research and developing curricula for research methodology courses.
While the grant provides funding for projects in all academic
programs, it is targeted towards students studying humanities, arts and social sciences. Funding
will be awarded competitively by the Provost's Office.
Five student-faculty research projects were selected to kick off the program in 2006. Videos of the students' presentations are available here.
