Stephanie A. Sellers teaches topics in Native American Studies in the English and Women, Gender, and Sexualities Studies Departments and is passionate about teaching her First Year Seminar on women's health. She holds a doctoral degree in Native American Studies with an emphasis on Women of the Eastern Woodlands, which has a significant women and gender studies research component. Sellers's dissertation, Native American Autobiography Redefined, was published in 2007 by Peter LangUSA, as was her second book, Native American Women's Studies: A Primer in 2009. Her poetry, essays, and coyote stories (traditionally the first form of social satire in the Americas) have appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as American Indian Quarterly, Native Literatures: Generations, American Indian Culture & Research Journal, Calyx: The Journal of Women's Literature and Art, FemSpec, SageWoman, and Rhizomes: Cultural Studies in Emerging Knowledge. Sellers has written chapters in the following books: Good Medicine: Native American Humor is Survival (Univ of Arizona 2014), Indigenous Mothering, Family, and Community: International Perspectives (Demeter 2014), Unfolding the Spreading Cloth of Time: Indigenous Thoughts on the Universe (Renegade 2013), and The Routledge Companion to Native American Literature (2015). Sellers has presented papers on the Native American Traditions panels at national conferences of the American Academy of Religion, Association for Eighteenth-Century Studies, the Modern Language Association, National Women Studies Association, the International Society for the Study of American Women Writers, and co-Chaired a panel at the Northeastern Modern Language Association.
Sellers is on the Board of Directors of the Collegiate Women's Leadership Educators committee of the AAUW and has been the Gettysburg College Representative to the American Association of University Women since 2013. She currently serves as Faculty Advisor to the Women's Leadership Track of the Garthwait Leadership Center.
In 2013, Sellers won the Faculty Award for Community-Based Engagement and Social Justice, and was the Inaugural Director of the Women's Center from 2009-2014.
