WGS major Sarah Connelly ‘15, receives a Mellon Summer Scholars Grant for 2014

Sarah explained that the project she proposed involved three specific goals: 1) in-depth research on feminist humor theory, which would be founded on her previous studies of humor theory, feminist theory, and media representation of minority groups; 2) research into popular webcomic artists and feminist comedians and how theory is employed through their work; and 3) the creation of her own webcomic as a result of her research. The idea for this project originated last fall, when her cousin, Vickie Toro, a lesbian-feminist comedian and USC graduate working in Los Angeles, approached her about partnering with her on the launching of a feminist humor website.

We are so fortunate to have such an outstanding scholar in the WGS Program!  Congratulations, Sarah!
