Emily Silverstein statement

∗    The members of the Women’s Studies Program at Gettysburg College send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Emily Silverstein.  

∗    We are currently in the grip of a tremendous loss in our community: the death of Gettysburg College sophomore, Emily Silverstein, and the imprisonment of Gettysburg College senior, Kevin Schaeffer. 

∗    We have begun an initiative to partner with student groups on campus, listening to students in an effort to help create opportunities and programming to discuss pressing issues, such as intimate partner violence, violence on campuses, and conflict resolution.  We appreciate input from any student group that wishes to work with us on this effort. 

∗    As a first step, we have prepared a statement to open up discussion on our campus about patterns in adult relationships that are unhealthy and can potentially lead to violence and homicide.
