Major: Individualized major

Academic highlights: I am designing an individual major related to linguistics. This unique opportunity at Gettysburg has allowed me to articulate and focus my interests. I have had the help of professors to form my major, and I am really excited to incorporate a lot of different disciplines focusing around this common subject.

Social highlights: I am involved with the Gettysburg Recreation Adventure Board (GRAB), an outdoor education organization. This has been such a great and meaningful experience. I have had the opportunity to go on various trips that have strengthened leadership skills. I have lead trips and learned so much through interacting with and facilitating my peers. I also had the opportunity to spend a summer interning in Uganda through the Heston Summer Experience that our Center for Public Service runs. This was an amazing, meaningful experience that allowed me to grow incredibly. It allowed me to immerse myself in a developing culture to broaden my global perspective.

After Gettysburg: I have been able to articulate my interests for after Gettysburg through a class I am currently enrolled in, Language and Culture. It is an interdisciplinary anthropology course. It has allowed me to find my passion for linguistics. I want to pursue this discipline in graduate school, and after that I want to document languages in indigenous communities. It is something I am really excited about, and would not have been able to figure out without the help of my course.

What should new students know? There are lots of amazing opportunities at Gettysburg, so do not be afraid to reach out and take hold of them!
