Audition Requirements for Guitarists
All students enrolling in the Conservatory with an applied major in guitar will study classical guitar. Interested students may also study jazz and improvisation.
Requirements for all applicants
- Complete a brief written test of basic music theory skills.
- Demonstrate aural skills by vocally matching pitches, singing simple intervals, identifying major and minor chords, and sight singing a simple song.
- Send copies of your music three weeks prior to the audition date.
Bachelor of Music in Performance
- Perform a major or melodic minor scale, two octaves, ascending and descending.
- Perform two contrasting pieces for classical guitar and a third piece in any musical style.
- Sight read a short piece.
Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Music Minor
- Perform a major or melodic minor scale, two octaves, ascending and descending.
- Play two contrasting pieces for guitar, one of which must be from the classical guitar repertoire.
- Sight read a short piece.
