Piano and Organ

Audition Requirements for Pianists and Organists

Requirements for all applicants
(see below for requirements for specific degree programs).

  • Complete a brief written test of basic music theory skills.
  • Demonstrate aural skills by vocally matching pitches, singing simple intervals, identifying major and minor chords, and sight singing a simple song.
  • Send copies of your music three weeks prior to the audition date. 

Bachelor of Music in Performance

  • Perform major and minor scales and triad arpeggios, 4 octaves, ascending and descending.
  • Perform three to four compositions which demonstrate contrasting style periods.
  • Sight read a short piece
  • Memorization is required.

Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Music Minor

  • Perform major and minor scales and triad arpeggios, 2 octaves, ascending and descending.
  • Perform two contrasting compositions which demonstrate contrasting style periods.
  • Sight read a short piece.
  • Memorization is desirable but not required.
