Distinguished Alumni Awards - Carol Ann Seible Hendrix
Carol Ann (Seible) Hendrix,
Class of 1980
Through her life and work, Carol has exemplified service to improve the
lives of others. As Bishop of the Lower Susquehanna Synod Assembly
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, 267 congregations, 480 clergy, and 125,000 members look to her as their spiritual and administrative leader. She contributes to the mission and governance of the church through her service on the Executive Committee, the Theological and Ethical Concerns Committee of the Conference of Bishops, and on other committees and councils within the synod and church-wide.
After completing a major in religion at Gettysburg College and receiving a Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Hendrix was ordained by the Central Pennsylvania Synod of the Lutheran Church in America. She served the Hampton-Heidlersburg Pastoral Charge in the Gettysburg area and was pastor of the St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfield, PA, before her call to serve as assistant to the bishop for congressional care in the Lower Susquehanna Synod.
Hendrix earned a Master of Sacred Theology degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. She established a Companions in Christ relationship between the Konde Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tasmania and the Lower Susquehanna Synod. Through this relationship each church participates in the life of the other through prayer, study, and communications, as well as through an exchange of pastors, leaders, visitors, and resources. She has made many intercontinental visits in this work.
