Distinguished Alumni Awards - William Pasfield
Class of 1981
After graduating from Gettysburg College in 1981 as a business administration major and L.E. Rost Scholarship recipient, William Bruce Pasfield, proceeded to Vermont School of Law to earn a Juris Doctor degree. Today, a partner in the environmental and land-use group at Alston & Bird LLP, he is noted both nationally and internationally as a leading expert in environmental law.
In the fifteen years Pasfield served in the U.S. Department of Justice, he litigated precedent-setting cases under the Clean Water and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Acts and developed policy, procedure, and infrastructure to ensure further enforcement. A recipient of the Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award, he has been awarded repeated high honors for achievenment by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Justice. Foreign governments and international organizations look to his counsel and training to understand compliance and enforcement of international environmental treaties.
Pasfield is clearly at home on the playing field as well as in the court room, and the City of Alexandria presented him their Outstanding Citizen Award to recognize his volunteer coaching of youth soccer, basketball, and baseball.
