Stuart H. Reese
Class of 1977
The educational and career paths of that Reese followed after graduating from Gettysburg College exemplify the values of a liberal arts education. He majored in biology and subsequently applied the rigor of his bachelor's degree to his advanced studies, achieving distinction as an Edward Truck Scholar at the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration of Dartmouth College, where he completed a Master of Business Administration degree.
Reese's distinguished professional career encompasses leadership positions in multiple subsidiaries of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, the highest ranking Massachusetts-based firm on the Fortune 500. In 2005 he was named president and CEO. His service to the financial community includes serving on the boards of the American Council of Life Insurers, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts, and as chair of the Advisory Board for the LRN-RAND Center for Corporate Ethics, Law, and Governance.
Several members of the Reese family count among Gettysburg alumni. He generously names the Reese Seminar Room in the Science Building for his parents, Al '50 and Ginny (Saul) '51 Reese. His brother David graduated in 1975. He and Betsy (Garr) Reese met as students and of their four children, Katie, Liza, Jill, and Tom, daughter Jill graduated from Gettysburg in 2005.
