Volunteer Opportunities

One of the hallmarks of a Gettysburg education is the way it connects theory to hands-on practice. Volunteering is one of the best ways you can translate your appreciation for your education into meaningful, hands-on work.

Hundreds of alumni volunteers put their talents and expertise to good use each year in support of the College. They provide career guidance for students, serve on boards and committees, help with student recruitment and fundraising, and devote their time in many other ways that are both personally satisfying and vital to the health of the College.

We can use your help!

Here are a few of the ways you can volunteer:

  • Provide career guidance to undergraduates - Today's students benefit immeasurably from the wisdom and experience of alumni who have become successful professionals. Alumni meet with students to discuss accomplishments and pitfalls from their careers, serve as mentors, provide networking contacts, and help in other ways. Gettysburg's innovative new Career Distinction Program gives students a career advantage by building an extended network of alumni contacts in each student's career field.  Interested in volunteering?.

  • Sponsor a student intern - Few experiences give a student greater insight into a possible career than an internship. Each year alumni in all fields provide meaningful work for students as interns with their organizations.  Interested in offering an internship?.

  • Promote Gettysburg to prospective students - Volunteer with KARE (the Key Alumni Resource Effort) and help high-achieving high-school students in your region learn more about what a Gettysburg education has to offer them.  If you are interested in being a KARE volunteer please e-mail Mary Wilkes Smith '00

  • Become a Class Agent - Class Agents work as liaisons to connect classmates with each other and to keep them informed of and involved with College life today.  More information on volunteering as a Class Agent.

  • Provide leadership for alumni activities - Run for the Board, serve on an alumni committee, or provide leadership in some other way.  E-mail the Alumni Relations Office for more information.

  • Work with your local Alumni Club - Regional Alumni Clubs sponsor social and cultural events in many parts of the country. Their work relies heavily on the volunteer efforts of former Gettysburg students who live in the area.
