The Mahans

Fred '52 and Martha Mahan

Fred Mahan '52 and his wife Martha wanted to honor the mentoring and teaching of two Gettysburg College philosophers, Kerry Walters and the late Norman Richardson. And to be sure that such mentoring and spirit of inquiry would be in place for future generations of Gettysburg College students, they have generously established funds using contributions directly from their IRAs.

Fred and Martha are taking advantage of temporary legislation that encourages donors age 70½ and older to make charitable gifts directly from their IRAs and avoid the income tax on the required minimum distribution. The Charitable IRA Rollover, set to expire on December 31, 2013, is a great opportunity for donors to use these highly taxed assets to make a difference at Gettysburg College.
