Gettysburg Splits Once Again |

Maryland no threat, but Bullets out-brawled by Canisius
Jon O'Hara and Matt Simeoni combined for 7 points on Friday night vs. Maryland Gettysburg was reeling after being swept the previous weekend in Altoona, but they got back on track just in time to face new MDCHA opponent the University of Maryland. The Bullets started the scoring with three quick goals in the first period from sophomore Graham Harkins, junior Cory Jackmuff, and junior Matt Simeoni. The game remained somewhat tight through the first and into the second, but Gettysburg would add two more goals from Jackmuff and rookie sophomore Connor Flanagan before Maryland finally got on the board on the powerplay right before the midway point of the period. Jackmuff would complete his hat-trick before the end of the period, and from there Gettysburg never looked back. Freshman Chris Fulenwider started the scoring, followed by freshman Ryan Anderson, Simeoni with his second, sophomore Jon O'Hara chipped in, and senior Jake Asplundh added two more in just 61 seconds. Maryland managed to pop a few more late goals in, but sophomore goaltender Pete Dawson rebounded nicely and kept the damage to a minimum. Gettysburg rounded out the scoring with sophomore Will Worthy adding his first, and Simeoni and Connor Flanagan added their second goals of the night to finish the Terps off 14-4. As had happened two weeks prior, the Bullets were unable to carry over their success from their Friday night conference-game to their Saturday out-of-conference matchup. Gettysburg stuck with Buffalo-based Canisius College early on despite surrendering a few goals, two on the powerplay, in the first frame. But late in the first period, a line-brawl erupted, eventually sending four Bullets home early with Fighting Disqualifications for playing a little too much "old-time-hockey." Unfortunately, these were some of Gettysburg's top players, and with already depleted numbers, Gettysburg was tiring quickly against Canisius' efficient attack. Despite some desperate play that kept the game close until the end of the second period, the Bullets suffered a mental breakdown late in the frame when their players stopped playing too early gave Canisius an easy goal with only 1 second left in the period. From there it seemed the team ran out of energy, and spiraled into a cycle of uninspired play and dumb penalties that Canisius relentlessly capitalized on. The only bright spots from the day were sophomore Jon O'Hara's highlight-reel goal midway through the second period, and junior Cory Jackmuff's incredible half-ice laser-beam midway through the third period. Although they fell against a tough opponent in Canisius, the Bullets remained undefeated in MDCHA play by beating newcomer Maryland. They get a well-deserved rest over reading days and open back up October 16th at the IUP Showcase Tournament in Indiana PA. ACHA Game Report - Gettysburg 11, Maryland 4
