Six and Three are Bullet's lucky numbers

Over the weekend the Bullet's were able to bounce back from their two previous losses to Alvernia and St. Vincent. Facing off against Widener and MDCHA rival Dickinson. They had easily handled Widener earlier in the season but Dickinson had only lost to Alvernia on the year. Dickinson was always a great opponent for Gettysburg as they not only did well on the ice but always brought a bunch of fans that added to the rivalry atmosphere. This game was no exception.

The game started back and forth with each team exchanging opportunities, and had the makings of a typical Dickinson vs Gettysburg match up. It wasn't until just over midway through the period when Gettysburg was swarming around the Dickinson net and it was assistant captain Mark Bouchard who banged home a rebound for the first of the game. With time winding down in the first it looked as if the Bullets would take a slim in to the second period, but with seven seconds remaining it was captain Phil Deyette received a pass form Bouchard and buried it past the tough Dickinson goaltender, to take a two goal lead in to the second period. Senior goaltender Cory Waldron stood firm including one save where he was going one way and the puck went the other and he was able to reach back and grab it before it went in the net.

It took the Bullets far less time to capitalize in the second period as it was Deyette once again who took a faceoff in the Dickinson zone, stepped past the centerman and ripped it past the goaltender before anyone knew the puck had dropped giving the Gburg a comfortable 3-0 lead. But against Dickinson they knew the game was never over until the final horn. It was definitely true again in this game, as minutes after Deyette's goal the Red Devils capitalized not once but twice to make it almost a brand new game at 3-2.

Hoping to maintain that two goal lead the Bullets had to quickly pull back together. With only a minute remaining in the period Gburg was on the powerplay this time Deyette fed the puck to junior Ryan Flanagan at the point who one-timed it top shelf, for a 4-2 lead.

The third period came and Dickinson did not go away as they were able to slip another goal past Waldron pulling within one once again. Things began to look dim for Gettysburg as midway through the period they found themselves down a man. But freshman Hon O'Hara saw this as an opportunity as he stole the puck from the Dickinson defender and went in alone and completely faked out the goaltender and slipped it five hole. Two goal lead was not enough. The Bullet's captain was itching for a hat trick and with three minutes remaining a giveaway by Dickinson allowed him to bury it top shelf capping off the win for Gburg. Waldron was great on the night stopping 32 shots. It was a classic Dickinson Gettysburg match up, but Gettysburg had little time to celebrate as they had to get home to rest, as played Widener University in just over 12 hours.

Gettysburg mae the trip to just west of Philadelphia to faceoff against Widener. The Bullets had easily handled Widener earlier in the year but knew coming in to this game they would be a little fatigued. That fatigue was evident from the opening draw as Gettysburg looked sluggish. In fact no one was able to tally until fifteen seconds left in the period as the Widener forward broke past the Gburg defensemen and skated in alone against freshman goaltender Pete Dawson and was able to slip it five hole.

Hoping to pick it up in the second, Gettysburg was on the powerplay and was finally able to capitalize as sophomore Michael Schopp buried a shot on a great give and go with Deyette. But it was short lived as Widener went on the powerplay minutes later and they scored not once but twice giving them a two goal lead over the Bullets. But just as Widener showed some end of the period magic, the Bullets had a little up their sleeve too, as with seconds remaining it was senior Dave Frascarelli who received a pass from Deyette and freshman Will Worthy to bury it to pull within one goal.

The third period the Bullets finally woke up and found the back of the net. First it was O'Hara once again showing his dangles and tying the game at 3. Minutes later it was the hometown boy, junior Jake Asplundh who group up not far from the rink, scoring his second of the year. Next it was South Jersey's finest, sophomore Cory Jackmuff, who buried a slapshot past the goaltender giving Gettysburg a two goal lead. And no game would be complete without Deyette showing off his scoring skills as he made the defenders miss and went "top dog" past the goaltender ending Gettysburg's weekend with its second 6-3 win.

Gettysburg now takes a holiday break and will be back to finish off the semester against strong teams at the Penn State Brandywine tournament.
