Bullets keep it rolling with a big win against Bucknell

The pep talk the struggling Bullets received in between the second and the third period seemed to keep resonating as the traveled to the remote tundra of Sunbury, PA to take on the streaking Bucknell Bisons who had just won their last two MDCHA games against a tough Dickinson team and the team Gettysburg fell to the night before, Alvernia. Both the Bullets and Bucknell needed this win to stay in competition to one of the three playoff spots for the MDCHA playoffs in two weeks. So needless to say if the intensity was not there then unfortunately there would be no hope for the Gettysburg team.

The intensity was apparent as Gburg came out flying and less then four minutes in, it was Gburg's freshman Jon O'Hara who one-timed a pass from sophomore assistant captain Matt Simeoni. As the period went on both teams exchanged chances and it was senior goaltender Cory Waldron who kept the Bisons blank through twenty minutes. But before the end of the period it was was junior Ryan Flanagan who ripped a shot from the point and junior Jake Asplundh tipped the shot in front right past the Bucknell goaltender to give the Bullets a 2-0 lead at the end of one period.

Going in to the second period the Bullets were awarded their first powerplay of the game. They wasted no time as thirty seconds in to the powerplay there was a tick-tack-toe pass play from sophomore Mike Schopp, senior captain Phil Deyette to none other than O'Hara who ripped his second of the game. This gave O'Hara nine goals in the Bullets last eight games. Again the two teams battled ringing a few off the posts but Waldron was able to blank Bucknell once again in the second period.

Gettysburg felt good going in to the third period but that quickly disappeared as the Bullets were down a man and Bucknell was able to poke a rebound past Waldron to pull within two goals. That sinking feeling was short lived as captain Deyette took it upon himself to put the Bullets up by three once again. Deyette, who had been a scoring drought for the past few games, so he was due and he took a pass from Flanagan and took it up the side boards and roofed a wrist shot top shelf form the slot to give Gburg a 4-1 lead. Gettysburg looked confident, and with time winding down the Bullets were once again on the powerplay and this time Flanagan ripped another laser from the point and this time it went directly past the goaltender giving Gettysburg the insurance goal they wanted. This ended the game with a great 5-1 win. Waldron played outstanding as he stopped 40 Bucknell shots.

Gettysburg needs to keep it going with two final MDCHA games against the south's number one team, Catholic and rival Dickinson on alumni/senior night.
