Cancer Run a Success

There were almost 300 runners that crossed the finish line at the YWCA ENCORE 5K Breast Cancer awareness run.

There was a lot of work the players put in to trying to get their name out in the community and to not simply be a "club" on campus. Their big community service project this season was decided upon to help the local YWCA with one of their big fundraising events. Each year the YWCA raises awareness and money for breast cancer research with their ENCORE 5K run. The Bullet hockey team's job would be to be street marshalls for the race and manage traffic, point the racers in the correct direction, and cheer on the runners. In quite possibly the earliest the Gettysburg hockey team has ever had to get up on a Saturday, the players came to the YWCA at 7:00am on a brisk October morning. Despite this, all of the players did their jobs admirably and as the last runner crossed the finish line at around 9:30am all of the players had a good feeling that they had helped out with such a great cause.

In addition to helping at the event the players have sold T-shirts around campus and the sale has been such a success they are extending it for a final week. The team has ordered more shirts this time in white, to continue their fundraising effort. They will sell the remaining white shirts this week in the CUB and once all of these shirts are sold, Gettysburg will be able to donate just over $1000.00 to the YWCA and the breast cancer research.

The Bullets would like to thank Deb Geesy of the YWCA for her help and the opportunity to contribute to their cause. They would also like to congratulate all of the runners who braved the cold early morning weather and ran for such a worthy cause!
